Inflation Rate in the United States of America, 2017
Overview
Monthly inflation rate in the United States was 0.31% in February 2017. That is 0.27 less than it was in January 2017 and 0.23 more than in February 2016. At the same time, 2017 year to date inflation rate is 0.90% and year over year inflation rate is 2.74%.

In 2017 USA ranks #12 in the world by yearly inflation rate.

Inflation rate in the United States is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) - prices that consumers have to pay for the products and services, which includes not only the producers price, but also various taxes.

To be more specific, it is based on the Consumer Price Index - All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) which includes those places and Metropolitan Statistical Areas of 2500 people or more. This covers about 80% of the population, excluding rural and military consumers. CPI-U is the most generic index, showing the real price changes from the consumer standpoint.

Of course pretty much everyone has noticed this subtle little sign of the times over the past few years.

Everything you buy at the grocery store has seen the packaging sizes squeeze down while the price has either stayed the same or actually risen.

Inflation is like rust, it never sleeps and does more damage as time goes by.

It's no wonder people always feel like they are paying more for everything, they are.
